20 Firefox Extensions for Social Media Addicts

If you’re an avid social media user, Firefox has all kinds of add-ons that can save you time and open up new opportunities. This list includes some that are specifically related to a particular social media site and others that are more general or usable for a number of different sites. Find a few that you like and give them a shot.

Social Media for FirefoxSocial Media for Firefox

A very practical and useful tool for use with the major social media sites.

“The tool is the the ultimate time saver to building powerful social media accounts. One of the secrets of top Diggers, Stumblers, Navigators etc… is being the first to submit stories already becoming popular on other social news sites. For example you can browse Reddit to find good stories already submitted and be the first to submit them to Digg. You can browse Digg and be the first to Stumble pages that are becoming popular there. Most if not all articles on the front page of Digg are submitted to StumbleUpon and will get a lot of Thumbs up. If you were the first to Stumble that when the page reaches the Popular page for its tags and category on Stumble your account will be the one listed next to it, which will give you more friends and fans and so on.”

StumbleUponStumbleUpon

No other social media site has a toolbar as fun and powerful as SU.

“With StumbleUpon you can also connect with friends and share your discoveries, meet people that have similar interests, and check out what other people are discovering.”

Delicious Add-onDel.icio.us Bookmarks

I use this add-on every day to manage my bookmarks and quickly keep tabs of new articles and resources that I come across.

“The Official Delicious Add-on seamlessly integrates your browser with del.icio.us, the leading social bookmarking service on the Web.”

Del.icio.us Buttons

Another (older) official tool for Delicious users.

“This is the “classic” official extension for del.icio.us, with ‘tag’ and ‘del.icio.us’ buttons in the toolbar. For a more comprehensive experience try our new extension at Del.icio.us Boomarks.”

Smart Digg Button

If you’re looking to build a strong Digg profile this add-on can save you a lot of time.

“The Smart Digg Button allows you to see whether or not the web page you are currently viewing has been submitted to Digg and lets you submit it if it hasn’t.”

Digg Sidebar

Lots of features for Digg users.

  • See the Digg Stories in Firefox sidebar
  • Story list is updated in real time automatically, no manual refresh required
  • Uses the Digg API to retrieve the data from Digg
  • Choose from variuos categories and topics and from popular/upcoming/all sections on Digg just using a menu
  • See the description of story by selecting it, keyboards navigation supported
  • See the Digg count and comments count in description itself
  • Links to story poster’s profile, story’s Digg page and the article dugg
  • Indicators to indicate new and/or unread stories

Digg This!

Another option for Digg users.

“Adds Digg This! to the right-click menu, Tools menu, and optionally the toolbar. The Digg This! extension speeds up the process of submitting stories to the news website digg.com”

Digg Firefox Extension

“Allows you to see whether or not the web page you are currently viewing has been submitted to Digg and lets you submit it (Pressing the button takes you to the submission) if it hasn’t.

If the page you are viewing has been submitted to Digg, it displays the current number of Diggs the page has, the number of comments the story has, the last 10 diggers, the last ten comments, the first sentence of the story description, previous stories submitted to digg from the same URL (if they exist), other stories submitted to digg from the same domain (if any exist). Clicking any of these options, opens the digg story in a new tab.”

Feed Me Links Toolbar

An alternative to a Delicious-style bookmarks manager.

“Share your links from within Firefox, via email, or through our rockin AIM interface.”

Del.icio.us Complete

“Del.icio.us is a social bookmarks manager. It allows you to easily add sites you like to your personal collection of links, to categorize those sites with keywords, and to share your collection not only between your own browsers and machines, but also with others. This extension is not only a sidebar it provides an excellent post dialog as well.”

TrailfireTrailfire

Not associated with voting, but still a cool social resource.

“Trailfire provides a unique new method for collaborative discovery on the Web. With this addon and Firefox you mark pages that you find interesting by leaving notes right there on page. These notes are linked together into trails that you organize any way you want.”

Fleck

Another option similar to Trailfire.

“Fleck allows you to bookmark websites including your own sticky notes on top of them. Save the best of the web. Work in groups and start building your collective knowledge base together. Search through all your favorite websites and those of your friends. Fleck puts ‘social’ back in social bookmarking.”

Shareaholic

A versatile add-on that will work for users of many different social media sites.

“Shareaholic allows you to share, bookmark, and e-mail web pages quickly via a wide array of web 2.0 social websites without cluttering up your browser! Shareaholic currently supports: digg, del.icio.us, facebook, foxiewire, friendfeed, google bookmarks, google reader, healthranker, kaboodle, magnolia, mixx, myspace, pownce, reddit, simpy, stumbleupon, streakr, truemors, tumblr, twitter, ycombinator, bzzster, etc.”

Socialphile

An alternative, social search.

“Socialphile Firefox Extension assists users with comfortable searching (Google, Yahoo, MSN, Google News) based on ranking of each search result at social news websites like Digg.com.”

SynergyShare

“SynergyShare allows you to share any web page with over 50 social networking sites. As it uses the Synergy Shared Link Service, new sites are added all of the time.”

UltimateFacebook

“UltimateFacebook makes Facebook easier and more fun to use. It simplifies the way you (as a user) can move through Facebook’s core features, removing as many as 2-3 clicks from simple things like sending messages, writing on walls, viewing friends, etc. In addition, you can see how you connect to people on Facebook or bookmark them by simply right-clicking them. UltimateFacebook is a social ranking system that enables you to see who, of your friends, is ‘cooler’ than others based on how many of their friends are popular on Facebook. Think a mix of StumbleUpon + LinkedIn + Google PageRank for the social graph.”

Resurrect Pages

Interesting way to see pages on servers that have crashed.

“Dead pages, broken links, the scourge of the internet. Powerhouse sites like Slashdot and Digg can bring a server to its knees. What do we do when a page is dead but we still want to see it? Call in the clerics, and perform a resurrection…”

Dugged

“Adds a duggmirror link to websites listed on digg.com.”

Mahalo Share

“Share and recommend Web pages across many different services; recommend a link once and have it automatically posted to any of Twitter, del.icio.us, MySpace, Ma.gnolia, Jaiku, your Tumblr blog, Facebook, Pownce, StumbleUpon, Mahalo, Faves, or Google Bookmarks.”

Bookmarker

“Compare and enjoy the power of social bookmarking, save and manage all your bookmarks online. (Supported services: del.icio.us, digg.com, diigo.com, ma.gnolia.com, mister-wong.de, netvouz.com, linkarena.com, alltagz.de, memori.ru)”
